Rome
Short Guide
What
everyone needs to know before visiting this Great City.
Accommodation
Like any other major cities, booking
ahead is essential. However, if you haven't and turn up in
Rome without hotel, establish the full price of your room
before you accept it. We compiled this great database of
hotels which has by far the lowest rates for Rome
hotels.
Transport
From The Airports The
more you are willing to pay, the easier it is to get
into town. You can book your airport
transfers in Rome by clicking Rome
Airport Transfers.
Fiumicino
is connected to the centre of Rome by direct trains,
which take thirty minutes to get to Termini and cost
€8.80; services begin at 6.38am and then leave
half-hourly until 11.38pm
There
are no direct connections between the city centre and Ciampino,
and if you're travelling with one of the low-cost
airlines the best thing you can do is take their shuttle
bus, timed to coincide with arrivals and departures to
Termini (€8 single, €12 return). Taxis to the
city centre from either airport cost €40–60, more at
night, and take about 30 minutes from Fiumicino, 45
minutes from Ciampino.
Sightseeing
Highlights Capitoline Museums,
Pantheon, Colosseum, Piazza Navona, Spanish Steps, Transport
Around Town is best achieved by walking. Rome
is not designed for Cars and very congested.A pair good
walikng shoes wil be the best advise we can give for getting
around town. If you have to take a public transport though
Flat-fare tickets on all forms of transport currently
cost €1 each and are good for any number of bus rides and
one metro ride within 75 minutes of validating them – bus
tickets should be stamped in machines on board the bus. You
can buy tickets from tabacchi, newsstands and ticket
machines located in all metro stations and at major bus stops
Few
Good Points, For
what's on information, the city's best source of listings
is the weekly Romace (€1), which has a helpful section in
English giving information on tours, clubs, restaurants,
services and weekly events (www.romace.it
or http://www.romaturismo.it
)
Eating
Well as the Italian cuisine is considered one of the
healthiest in the world, it is safe to say you will not have
any major issues in Rome finding an eatery to your
satisfaction. However, we would recommend to follow your ear
and find a place frequented by the locals. You will not be disappointed.
